It's a Hearts at Home Blog Tour!

Hey! You're here! Welcome to one stop on the Hearts at Home Blog Tour! Hearts at Home has just completed another conference and we had a blast in Grand Rapids, MI! Throughout this week, I will share with you some of what we saw and heard. Overall, I am just so grateful for the women who came and for God's hand in it all.

Now that I am home, I am going to do something new on the blog. As a part of the tour, I am sponsoring a giveaway and you may be the winner! All you have to do to enter is stop by and leave a comment or question and that will count as your official entry for a free Hearts at Home book! With the economy struggling, we can all get excited about something for FREE, right? You can enter once a day and I will announce the winner, from a random drawing, on Friday.

Ready? To get us started on this first day, what is your FAVORITE parenting book (or magazine) and why?

Hi Nadia! I hope I have the honor of being your first comment :)! Well, it is not exactly a parenting book per se, but I homeschool and it is a homeschooling book, which of course has at it's core parenting! I am currently reading and love the book "A Charlotte Mason Companion" by Karen Andeola - wonderful reminders to slow down, spend quality time living and learning with your children, and bring them up focused on the love of the Lord and with depth of character. Great book for the homeschool mom! Blessings, Kathy

Ok, I have 2. I love, love, love "The Power of a Praying Parent" by Stormie Omartian. It has small chapters and gives specific scripture to pray for your kids, and has various topics with actual prayers to pray over these areas of your child's life. It's one I always keep out. My other book is "Home Improvement: 8 Tools for Efective Parenting" by Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, who lead the National Center for Biblical Parenting. Great book with effective ways of encouraging obedience and how to handle life with kids. Easy to read and very helpful! Have a good day! Amy P

Hi Nadia! Wanted to say hi and let you know that I stopped by to visit. Hope all went well last weekend! The most useful parenting book I've ever read was 1,2,3 Magic. We've used the ideas in this book with all four kids...always a little differently with each child. What a fun idea to have a blog tour...I love it! Where is the next stop?

Hi Nadia, I can't say I have a favorite parenting book...I have a hard time sitting down and reading books like that, although I have several I should read! I think I'll get my ideas from those who write you! But, I do like Parents magazine...that's my style of reading. :)

Hi Nadia!
Had a great time in Grand Rapids with you this past weekend, your session on Nurturing Your Child's Spirit was fantastic!
Ok, I have 2 favorite parenting books. The first is Bringing up Boys by Dr. James Dobson. A friend of mine referred this book to me after our 2nd son was born and I felt that I had NO CLUE how to raise a son! :D
The second book that I love is also 1,2,3 Magic. This was a book that my MIL actually used with my husband when he was a child and was diagnosed with ADHD. That was 30 years ago and she didn't know where to turn, she read that book and it completely changed her parenting style! I have now read the book as well, and have to say it is fabulous!

Again, I enjoyed the weekend. Can't wait for Hearts at Home next year!

Nadia,
Always enjoy reading your blog! My favorite parenting book is "little people" by Dr. Edward Christophersen. It is an older one - I started using it when my 13 year old was little - but it gives very specific advice and has been a great help to me. I am looking forward to Hearts at Home in Illinois, I haven't been able to attend the last few years, but should make the next one! Lisa

I have to admit to having quite a library on parenting. I am a ridiculous book-crazed-mother, and seek them out continuously. One of my favorites is "Raising Cain - Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys" by Dan Kindlong and Michael Thompson. Such a well-researched book on how we do our little boys an injustice by training them to be so tough and unemotional. Goes deeper than that, but having one boy, it opened me to trying some different approaches. Favorite magazine is Brain, Child. Love the long articles (some of which are soooooo esoteric)and it's kind of off-beat approach.

All the books sound great. I saw your blog address on the fundraising for adoption yahoo group. I've adopted twice...we're working on number 3. All together, this will be child #6. We have a full house. I just started homeschooling this year, and I love it. I believe we have a Hearts for Home at our church, too.
Thanks,
Monica

NOW I remember you, Nadia! - I attended both of your workshops at HAH in Normal this past spring. They were wonderful - thank you! We also spoke at your book table... Anyway, I, too, don't have a favorite parenting book, but take what works from a wide variety of resources. Some of my best parenting advice has actually come from other great moms!
Becky, mom to 3 girls from China, and w-a-i-t-i-n-g for a fourth...

My very favorite parenting book is the Bible...Our heavenly father is such a great example of unconditional love, faithfulness, grace, mercy, strength and discipline. He also lays out all the tools that we will ever need on this journey of Motherhood!
